What Ice Damming Means To Us In The South

Ice damming is a term used when frozen precipitation accumulates on roofs above overhangs and open porches. What actually occurs is the frozen precipitation lying on the remainder of the roof starts to melt due to the heat rising from the house.

Research indicates that aging begins soon after shingles are installed and progresses rapidly during the initial curling phase of their life cycle. During this stage, granule loss may occur, small blisters may develop, or the shingles may curl slightly at their edges.

Unfortunately, most replacement windows are not installed properly due to time saving measures taken by the installers. The end result is major sacrifices in security and energy efficiency.
